My brother and his ex had a doggie custody arrangement in their divorce. The ex then decided that it was too much of a hassle and got herself a new doggie so my brother had the custody changed to him and she signed off on it. She randomly decided she wanted to see the dog, and he told her no.

My friend shared 5 dogs with her boyfriend. It was not pretty when they broke up.

I know people are deeply attached to their pets and I respect that, but this still seems insane to me. Obviously I am not a dog person.

These types of doggie custody issues can be messy, but at least it shows that their parents (I hate the word “owner”) love them. Too often, when people split, they give their pet to a shelter or someone else. My close friend adopted two dogs because their previous humans split up, moved to a different city, and could no longer care for them.

Years ago my daughter lived with her boyfriend for two years. They adopted a lovely GSD girl that was dear to both. Unfortunately upon their breakup my daughter learned a hard lesson. She wanted the dog and had the dog at the time of the breakup. But her ex told her no and that all the paperwork was in his name, even though she paid for all the dog expenses. He was okay with the dog but kept it out of spite. It broke her heart for years after.
