as much as I enjoyed this series, Gadd always felt super suspect to me so this sadly doesn't surprise me

It's good and confronting with great performances, a great exploration of abuse and shame, but I don't think it's a show you'd rewatch. (I won't be.) Just be aware that it's got heavy subject matter and might be triggering.

Omg I thought it was a dark comedy making fun of a crazy stalker or something like that based on the promo posters I saw 😅

The casting story is peak "the Implication", especially the way she says it happened: basically him leading with the casting of a life-changing, main role on a Netflix show and then immediately asking her out afterwards. Like directly in the conversation itself.

Sure, Gad would have never ever let a rejection influence a casting of his show just like Dennis would have never ever would have ever hurt any lady on that boat in the middle of the open ocean. But the implication that things go wrong for her if she refuses to sleep with Dennis/Gad, remains. And while the boat thing didn't work out for Dennis on Always Sunny, Gad's show did get made. So she got to the casting because she did agree to a date, And then she refused to continue dating him and she didn't get the role. So maybe the implication's threat was real along.

So however you define Dennis' plan to buy a boat to get girls being too afraid of the consequences to say no to him on it, it's that.
