I like how she acts like her books are good. They made me feel nothing. I couldn’t wait to get through to them so I can just get to the Polin book so I could compare notes to the show. She’s a terrible writer. Benedict’s storyline is literally Cinderella, ffs. And that Jess person is an awful showrunner. Season 3 seriously needs a redo.
But, I’ll still watch the mess that is the future seasons because I have no self control.
She's a very repetitive writer. I know we all have our little language quirks (mine is the word "just"), but if I'd been given a quid for every time somebody was grunting names during sex as/like "a benediction" across her various books the next drinks round would be on me.
For me it was the “she swallowed convulsively” - like, gotdamn, they can’t normally swallow anymore? Every other page they were fighting for their life.
I'm a little curious/worried as to how they'll handle the gender swap, but damn the way some stans are reacting - you'd think someone was murdered or something. The books are still there to engage in?
I'm glad she said something though cos people were hating on the actress and its like...she's literally just there to do her job and doesn't decide on the story.
There definitely have been a lot of people showing their homophobic asses online about the whole thing. Of course they should diversify the stories, fuck anybody acting like it's some huge betrayal of literature.
I will say I wouldn't have picked Francesca/Michael(a) specifically, for reasons I've droned on about already, but actually as I've chatted more with other viewers about it I'm settling in with the idea. On thinking it through it could transfer better than I initially gave it credit for, we'll see what the writers do with it.
I do still need them to fix that whole wedding moment though. Like, before you kill him off I need him and Francesca to be the most hopelessly besotted pair (in their introverted special way) to ever exist. Then she and Michaela can raise the bar
Sooo much homophobia out there on this. so many varieties of "i'm all for the gays BUT" and then commencement of ass-showing. My fave comment was "NETFLIX YOUR JOB IS TO ADAPT THE BOOKS, NOT CHANGE THEM" as if seasons 1-3 were staged book readings to the letter lol
I'm hoping that's the case because even in this statement she talks about how John and their love were so important she fought her publishers to include chapters.
I’m always happy to see more queer shit but Benedict and Eloise were the more obvious gender bend choices for me so I’m still curious why they went with Fran. I’ve never read the books though so ultimately I’m not attached to anyone’s stories.
I do hope Eloise’s story changes though because what I have read did not impress me.
I listened to the audio books after I watched season one and the changes they made to Eloise maker her book unrealistic imo! Netflix!Eloise wouldn’t fall in love that way tbh!!! (from what I remember three years later lol)
never read the books, from the bits i've seen, they're horribly written and all the men are terrible. always here for f/f ships, and this is a gorgeous one on a show that centers romance (to differing degrees of success) so i'm excited and hope everyone complaining is miserable forever
as i've said before, my one complaint was that it felt like they were setting up for her to be a lesbian instead of bi and undermining the nice 'love doesn't have to be loud and dramatic to be valid' message by making her not in love with john after all, and this kinda quells that worry a little, even tho what was shown onscreen contradicts that. but we'll see.

the fact that i managed to read 6 of the books is wild to me. I blame the pandemic-- they were the brainless covid lockdown read i reached for
