This season was...not good. There was some fun episodes and it felt fresh but as a whole it was so emotionally empty. I think the short episode count really hurt it. Like everything with Ruby and the Doctor's relationship feels completely unearned because we never get to see it! They never have any conflict, anything that shows the growth and change in them and their friendship. They are the good time girls, which is fun! But also kind of boring. And that finale reveal was just so underwhelming.

I largely enjoyed and was entertained the season but this was an issue I had too. Eight episodes was not enough. Several of those episodes were Doctor-light too, which was totally understandable if Ncuti had to shoot his other show, but it really took more time away from building the Ruby-Doctor dynamic. I think an attempt was made to imply more time had passed between episodes--like by the second episode Ruby was throwing out things you'd hear from long-running companions like "but you never run" and "you always know what to do" and getting a TARDIS key, but it felt sort of unearned. The actors work very well off of one another, but I really wish we got to see more.

I think it should have been two episodes, because the pacing was so choppy.
[Spoiler (click to open)] RTD loves to spin the ordinary people can do extraordinary things narrative. So my thinking was that Ruby’s mom was a mystery/unknown to Suketh, because she was a mystery/unknown to Ruby. When Ruby went with 15, Suketh picked up on Ruby not knowing her mom, and it manifested from there. But I’m probably grasping at straws to make sense of it because the pacing was weird in this episode

I loved this series! I've watched every series since '05 without fail and this is definitely one of the strongest. I'm just sad it wasn't longer :(

i enjoyed it overall! ncuti and millie are both so charming and fun. he's such perfect casting as the doctor. [Spoiler (click to open)]their last scene together and ruby finding her mom were both legit moving to me. i agree that i wish they'd had more episodes though and i think the writing could have been tightened up in spots, but their combined charisma really carried it even in the weaker episodes.

really excited for the show to be back at christmas (with nicola coughlan!) and interested to see where the [Spoiler (click to open)]mrs. flood mystery they teased goes.

Finale??? The fact that I haven't seen anyone in my orbit talk about this online seems like a bad sign.
