While yes Emma is a better actress, there is something very real about Aimee in that role. I don’t know if I could rewatch the series if it was Emma because it would take me out of the realism and grittiness.

Your last part is a very good point. Emma just does not suit the tone of FNL at all.

Interesting! I think she would have brought some charisma to the role, but I just can't picture her as Julie at all. A character like Tyra maybe.

i know most people hated julie, but i always had a soft spot for her. while emma is the better actress and probably would have been good in the role, and i know they're the same age, i do think aimee was the better fit because she looked stereotypical all american and pulled off bratty very well. it did take me out a lot though because she was the only cast member (maybe besides jesse plemmons) that was the same age as the character she was playing, while all the others were in their 20s.

No offense to the people in this post defending Julie…. It may be time for a re-watch. I did one a couple of years ago and disliked her just as much lol she really is a terrible person on that show.

I couldn’t see Emma in that role tbh

I think both things can be true - Julie sucked and made poor decisions. But so do most 16 year olds. So like she sucked and also was a good character and depiction of that.

Julie always annoyed me because she was definitely a brat but tbf, she was too young for how serious her relationship with saracen got that quickly, and he was dealing with way more traumatic stuff than she knew how to handle because she'd never faced any real adversity with how great and stable her parents were. i felt like it was a pretty realistic depiction (but the actress' abilities were way more limited than anybody else on the show).

I feel like that was part of the reason I never grew to like her. So many of the kids on that show were dealing with such shitty family situations and yet she, with the greatest tv parents of all time, was always the one acting the absolute worst.
