Nothing to do with a trust or money, but I am legal guardian for one of my young adult sons, and the process is so depressingly expensive. I think it’s important to have checks on things like guardianships (and, obviously, conservatorships) but it sucks that everything is out of pocket. We can afford it, but not everyone can. Court fees, lawyer fees, second set of lawyer fees, etc every single year just so we have a document.

[The point of the guardianship is to protect him from being pressured into contracts, military service, medical procedures, etc. During the early days of COVID disabled adults were being separated from caregivers due to the “no visitors except for minors with parents” so we do this so he’ll never be legally allowed to be isolated in important decision making. We still give him as much autonomy as possible.]

But people who cant afford the thousands to start the process are just shit out of luck.
