it really seemed like Savannah won course 1, Dan won 2-3, and Danny won 4. but during judge's table I said that they were misdirecting for some weird reason. it just seems insane for Dan to lose when he had one negative comment (the tuna), and Danny had lack of seasoning (he even said he got dinged on it for the whole meal) and the undercooked lobster. honestly Danny should've lost just for picking Manny like what are you DOING. anyway tl;dr glad this mid season is over. only positive was Kristen being AMAZING
I get wanting to work with someone you like so that there isn't strife in the kitchen, but you also need to choose someone who's competent, takes direction well, makes good decisions, retains information, asks questions when things need to be clarified, doesn't need a lot of supervision, can complete prep work quickly, communicates well, etc. Manny failed at pretty much every one of those things during this episode.
I also felt bad for Dan when the people in the ship's seafood kitchen cooked his sardines instead of cleaning them and he had to pivot very quickly. Did she not hear him? Did she misunderstand? Whatever the case may be, I am sure it must have been frustrating for him to deal with, especially in the finale.
Anyone choosing Chef "is it like, a porridge?" deserved to lose.
I knew when Danny got in the final three that they would give it to him. He should have gone home back in week 3 when he undercooked fish and then he should have gone home in week 4 when he overcooked fish but he got pass after pass.
The funny thing is, Dan, Savannah and Danny were all on the same team for restaurant wars, and they were the winning team.
The editing was off and the finale overall was underwhelming, but the content of the criticisms made it seem like Danny was safe for the win. They were looking for nitpicks with Danny and the editing overcompensated. At one point Kristen criticized his plating choice but had nothing negative to say about the food, and the pinch of salt comment was kind of halfhearted. They made the dessert seem close between Danny and Dan, but Tom called Danny's a signature dish. No one else got close to that type of praise as far as flavor plus vision goes. Even when they complimented Dan's stronger courses, they weren't gushing the same way they did about Danny's.
All season the issue has been the chefs making big mistakes and playing it safe, and Danny was the only one who didn't do either in the finale. I wanted Savannah to deliver but it always kind of felt like she'd have to hit a home run because Danny's probably had this menu planned and tested since he got on the show.
I agree - maybe it's because we got to see him in Last Chance Kitchen whereas the chefs only saw him for a few weeks in the regular competition, but I would have been thrilled to have Soo as a sous chef. He was able to think on his feet, execute quickly, etc. In contrast, Danny had to tell Manny to quit fucking around and work faster.
Just glad the season is over. Underwhelmed and disjointed this whole season.
Go back to the drawing boards and figure out a consistency with the quick fire and elimination challenge and what will be figured into judges table along with the immunity.
Still mad about the 5 vs 4 Restaurant Wars. Should not have ever happened.
Not feeling the finale location in the cruise ship.
And still need the story on David the hat man chef and why he was erased at LCK after his elimination.
