TBF if they are just pleading guilty and taking the fine or pleading not guilty and have it moved to a trial date, he wouldn't have to be there, just like a normal person wouldn't have to.

BTW, I'm not defending this asshole at all, but as a lawyer, I tend to tell my clients to stay home for administrative bullshit. It's much easier to deal with without them there.
