i thought Homelander could hear/see people through walls and objects and that's why Butcher and co. were hiding from him in the first season. Has something changed? Why couldn't he see Hughie?

I’m enjoying this season so far, but I really hope it actually takes us somewhere by the end. Last season was enjoyable (really liked Jensen Ackles inclusion) but ultimately they were no further ahead at the end than they were at the beginning of the season.
