Oh man that's so scary! As an avid cycler, I am always biking passively and checking every road I cross for any cars that might not see me. And am also aware of just how puny my lil body is against a huge ass truck (that is hugely popular where I live smh). I hope he is able to enjoy cycling again after this, as I imagine it could be hard to get back on a bike after an incident like that.
I do now. My dad was essentially an angry, irresponsible, drug addicted criminal loser for like, my entire growing up.
And then idk what happened but in my mid/late 20s he just straightened out. He came to live with my grandparents (his parents) and cared for them through the rest of their life and I loved them dearly so that meant so much to me.
And it doesn't hurt that while all my friends dads are embarrassing FB Republicans my dad is an extremely liberal anarchist so I don't have to be embarrassed about that either lol
I always say my dad is everyone’s dad - he’s not forthcoming with emotions by any means (and got that from him) but he’s the first to step up to help out. He lent my brothers friend money when going through a messy divorce, when I mentioned my coworker from another country had never been on a boat before, we took her out on the lake, when a friend of mine bought a house and had to swap out gas for electric dryer, he offered to go over and check it out to see if he could do it so they wouldn’t have to drop $$. My cousin goes to him for stuff rather than his own dad, my SIL will call him for advice despite living across the province and her own father living 5 min away (no ill against my uncle, my dad is just trustworthy and handy)
Ouch! Glad he’s a-ok. That’s so scary. Like, we could’ve had advanced innovative safety and preventative maintenance solutions that should be held in the highest standards by now.
