i saw her last year and the max capacity in the venue was maybe 1000 people. she talked about how she was doing camp counseling to help pay the bills. and the venue wasn't full. she hadn't even announced the album release date yet, and now she is at this level of fame. i can't imagine the kind of toll that the demands take on your mental health. going from being a camp counselor who is trying to make it by performing at small venues with a shoestring budget to this, and she's tried to draw so many boundaries and these tiktok fans keep pushing way beyond acceptable behavior. i saw someone post that they found out what bar chappell was at before her show and did a little storytime of how she got there and posted the photo like. jesus christ.

I read her Paper Mag interview that just came out with Trixie Mattel, and she told Trixie how fans were approaching her on the street while she was in the middle of crying on the phone to her therapist (in SYRACUSE of all places too.)

I know it's been said before but her "sudden" stardom feels so much like when Lady Gaga was getting big. And if her trajectory is anything like hers, I really hope she's able to navigate fame in a way that lets her feel stable, comfortable, and in control. She's a once-in-a-generation talent.

totally - and that was just as social media was taking off. now that it's fully off the rails, i think it's gonna be a much tougher battle to navigate then it was even 15 years ago.

It does feel like she blew up a ton all of a sudden. I remember telling people about how good her album was last year and no one had heard of her and over the past few weeks she's been everywhere.
