Not sure why Deborah met with Cliff but overall WHAT AN EPISODE. Hannah Einbeinder’s acting has come along way. I audibly gasped at the end

[Spoiler (click to open)]I think she met with him out of fear! even though Deborah finally achieved her goal of hosting a late night show, it's like she still can't enjoy the moment bc of how much trauma she went through which is making her insecure about everything, so I think she met with Cliff to get answers to help get closure so she could enjoy finally achieving her lifelong dream

but unfortunately he didn't have an answer that could make her feel better, because only she can do that for herself. so instead of looking inward she just hardened her shell even further and took it out on ava by pushing her away because she's so afraid of what may or may not happen if things aren't "perfect", etc.

she's trying to control something that she has no control over (sexism) so instead of saying fuck it let me just be the best "me" and not care what other people think, she's trying to fit a safe mold so nothing can ruin this for her again. she's letting fear make her decisions as ava pointed out

a couple of weak episodes but overall amazing. the show is carried by stellar performances instead of a super strong writing imo.

the hiking episode was distractingly bad -- i was so surprised by how obvious and lazy the writing was that i was sure it was on purpose and they were going to have a "gotcha" moment... but no

This season was truly immaculate. Putting comments behind a spoiler cut just in case.

Ava's character mostly annoyed me in season 1 but I absolutely love her now and that final scene this season was so so good. Ava had ice in her eyes, and I was pulling for her!

The mid-season episode of Ava/Deborah alone & lost in the woods is so much more impactful to me now. That was an episode that showed both characters' deep vulnerability, which makes the betrayal by Deb in the finale so much more hurtful. And Ava very clearly stated she didn't want to be a shark, but her hand was basically forced and she had it in her and did it! You created this Deb!!

It was so perfectly on brand for both of the characters. And all the meta jokes, with the audience representing, well, the audience.. It was gold. Pure gold. I need to rewatch it, as I was almost choking with laughter.
