On May 20, NewJeans became a hot topic as multiple allegations of plagiarizing the Mexican group Jeans rose, with many pointing out similarities to the branding, outfits and also choreography.

Netizens were dragging new jeans members, music giant Hybe, Bang Si-hyuk and creator of the group, Min Hee-jin, for lifting their imagery from the Mexican group, in response to that, fans of new jeans started tagging and commenting on jeans’ social media profiles so they’d make a statement defending new jeans. Finally the official account for Jeans responded to the comment with, “We love that the 90s has come back and reached new generations.”

Jeans is a Mexican girl group that shot to fame in 1996 and continued until 2008, collecting a string of pop hits. Reuniting in the late 10’s and going on tours since then.
