I'm glad someone more on the official side of things is finally questioning about the sponsor's influence, because it's clear by the way everyone is talking (performers and broadcasters) that it was very significant this year.

I assume they banned the EU flag because it was a part of Joost's performance and they wanted to avoid displays of support for him. An incredibly stupid decision if that's the reason.

Officially, only the national flags of participating countries plus the rainbow flag were allowed. (They never specified which rainbow/pride flags were allowed, but Eurovision winner Nemo confirmed that they didn't allow the nonbinary flag.) Unofficially - yeah, they probably cracked down specifically on the EU flag due to Joost, because a giant Costa Rica flag made it through to the front row.

As always, follow the money. Eurovision was always political, it was born out of politics, but they ripped the veneers off when they banned Russia and ignored everything else. Good that they’re questioning the influence of the sponsors because Moroccanoil (which isn’t even Moroccan but that’s a whole other can of worms) has dug its fingernails so deep into this that it’s morphed into The Annual Moroccanoil Festival sponsored by Europe.

I'm glad the more "official" heads of broadcasting are calling this bullshit out. I don't know if anything will change, but at least it's a step in the right direction.

It's also been very nice watching all the fans going so hard for Joost after everything happened. He deserved better.

yeah even tho it sounds like Joost behaved poorly the EBU really stitched themselves (and him) up by trying to portray it as a hate crime at first lmao

Obviously yelling isn't the best reaction, but the EBU made it seem like he beat the shit out of someone and then burn a flag in front of them. It was insane.

I watched this during my lunch break and as much of a shitshow I knew this years' Eurovision was from clips and mutterings, it was worse than I thought! It was a good but sad watch tbh.

I watched this this morning, what a fucking shitshow.

I really struggle to believe "Israel" aren't leaning on the competition if there were that many complaints about their behaviour and they did nothing about it.
