Not surprising. I’m sure he’ll respond by saying something along the lines of “Well in my day, that was okay. Oh cancel culture got me”

Co produced defended him saying “Francis walked around the set to establish the spirit of the scene by giving kind hugs and kisses on the cheek to the cast and background players. It was his way to help inspire and establish the club atmosphere, which was so important to the film.”

Newsflash: that's inappropriate behavior on a work environment at best, sexual assault at worst
A big NO either way

Especially considering that the "club atmosphere" is most likely supposed to be sexually charged. So "establishing the spirit" would not mean cordial bro cuddles and cheerful French greeting smackers.

I could see how a big director going around greeting even the extras & giving hugs could be kind, but more like... on the set of Mamma Mia, and not when the people in question are exposed, in a vulnerable position and probably already uncomfortable!

Nah, it's not really appropriate anywhere. He's the boss of the set, shouldn't be hugging or kissing anyone.

"Coppola came on to the set and tried to kiss some of the topless and scantily clad female extras because he was “trying to get them in the mood”."

The boldness of men.

I love it when the "defense" is admitting to the crime
