Pop music of the last 4 or 5 years has been such a snooze for the most part. I was never a Katy Perry fan but I heard Teenage Dream in a store a few weeks ago and it occurred to me that sort of traditional pop song structure (catchy verses, soaring chorus etc) are almost extinct now. With a few notable exceptions, nearly everyone's doing the same low energy elevator mumble music now.

There was the whole ordeal with Atlantic Records and having her career tied up by some billionaire(?) for over a decade, but she still kinda acts like she's not allowed to perform or record? I know she had a track that made it into the new Alan Wake game, but she was really cagey about promoting it.

At this point, I genuinely can't tell if she's being imposed upon or if she's just... odd now? Either way, my fingies are crossed for her return.
