is this the show where they started with chefs from all over the U.S.? or am i thinking of a different show? i remember my bf and i watching a few eps of it (if that's what this is) and the process of choosing the chefs to compete was so long, we just forgot to keep watching.
hmmm, maybe that was it though, i thought what i was watching was only people from the U.S. and there was a group representing each part (east, west, midwest, south, etc)
i was high though so i honestly could have just made it up and in reality the tv wasn't even on
Doing Restaurant Wars with unbalanced teams is fucking dumb and unfair. I get that this was because Tom decided to bring back two contestants in the first round of LCK, but they could have made it work by giving Michelle immunity at the end of last week's episode of made her sit out this episode.
I was actually rooting for Dos by Duel because they had one less cook. But I knew that Channel would win because they had one more cook in the kitchen. Judges kept saying again that their menu was neither cohesive not matched their theme. But their two desserts was clearly the reason they won. And they were able to do desserts because they had one more cook!!!
Manny had the quote of the episode and the season probably: "Forcing a menu is like a fart. If you are pushing it, it’s probably shit."
The uneven numbers bothered me so much. It just isn't fair. Why couldn't they have done restaurant wars last week when they had even numbers or next week when they'll have even numbers? This season has been full of bullshit like this. Whoever is producing this season is incompetent.
Both desserts were basically puddings. I think Gail mentioned how one them needed more texture, and I'm thinking, yeah, like a pie crust or some shortbread cookies to go along with the pudding, or just make a tiramisu-like thing with some spongecake or ladyfinger layers. Something besides a basic pudding with some blueberries thrown in.
Did no one notice they were making two of the same dessert? Make one into a parfait or make something different. It was like, how can we put in the least amount of effort and they still won.
Then LCK was a trainwreck. I don't even like Kevin but I felt sorry for him because that wasn't fair either.
It made no sense to me that the teams didn't have the same number of people yet had to make the same number of dishes. As always, I hate that one of the chefs has to be front of house. All I can really say about this episode is that I'm glad we finally have restaurant wars out of the way for the season.
I quit watching Top Chef ages ago so it took me a while, but I'm finally back to the place where I LOATHE every time someone describes their dish as "a play on" something or says that they're "honoring" an ingredient.
Danny was smart to spend time making those order sheets to reduce the possibility of the servers fucking up. I don't know what the other team could have possibly done to prevent their servers from writing the wrong table numbers on their tickets though.
