I recently watched a TikTok video where a young woman told the story of how she talked to a taxi driver in Edinburgh who had driven J.K. around town a couple of times and actually knows her through friends and long story short, she is apparently isolated from her family, spends 99,99% of her time at home in her estate and is totally lost in the transphobic sauce.

I know everyone hates the saying that money doesn't buy happiness, but JFC these billionaires are the most miserable people.

If I had the level of money they have I’d be investing so much in doing things that build up my health and well-being. Taking all the trainings and workshops that interest me. A chef to create beautiful, healthy meals for me.

Helping animal shelters/rescues and elderly care homes would be wonderful. The money they have could do so much for public education too. We need more Mackenzie Scott’s.

Beyond the point at which you're living comfortably, more money definitely doesn't substantially improve your life and you're just left with whatever personality you have, and it just seems to get exacerbated by being able to do whatever you want. Some think the answer is just a pathological, endless race for more money. That's part of Elon's story, and why I'm not surprised he's a terribly sad individual. He just wants to crush others and get all the glory.

That is the part that surprised me about JK Rowling. She made her fortune through her art; she didn't seem to have to destroy and exploit people to get to where she got. She also hasn't been doing
a bazillion projects to be even richer. Initially, she even seemed to be quite the philanthropist. Then, she just fell into a hole of hate, and because she has enough f-you money to last her a lifetime, no one could stop whatever is going on with her. Sad.

I also find it interesting she was really going out of her way to make her books sound much more inclusive after they were written--Dumbledore is gay, I never said Hermione was white, here are a couple Jewish Hogwarts students, etc. to the point it almost became parody. And yeah, it was obviously ridiculous to try to make all these claims of inclusivity when they weren't actually present in the books, but none of it ever stuck me as a joke and she seemed serious about it at the time.

I don't know what dragged her in, but it dragged her in hard, and you're right. She has enough money that it really doesn't matter. She doesn't have to write another book or retain fans, she can spout as much hate as she likes and continue to live comfortably.
