It’s so interesting to me that it took seven years for the French film industry to reckon with MeToo. I mean Adele Haenel was there before but it was deafening silence around her at the time.

Honestly parts of continental Europe are much further behind on equality/equity than the rest of the Western world (not that we're doing great at it in places like the US and the UK, but in comparison it's not as bad).

Countries like Spain and Italy are reknowned for their racism and mysogyny, as is France... it's gross.

Even I, as a white woman, experienced prejudice in Spain - black and brown people I knew there had it SO bad. I knew a white lady who adopted two brothers from Mexico and she was once chatting to a stranger about how they were adopted and they replied "but they don't look like you???". I knew a black teacher who was routinely stopped by men pulling up next to her in their car because they assumed she was a prostitute.

While it's a good move, I sadly can't see anything happening from it, because it never does.

well it's a start! I'm pessimistic but let's hope something good will come out of it

I can't believe he's actually in custody. Wasn't he living in Russia?

What does “take stock of violence committed against adults” mean? Take stock sounds like “do nothing about” but I guess it’s a first step. The word violence is throwing me off though. Like there are a lot of ways to be abused that aren’t considered “violence” so I feel like they well overlook things.
