I like that the picture chosen has strong "And what the fuck about it??"-energy.

Um….yes and no. Hollywood is obv the major player and so much trash comes out and the gems either need an amazing word of mouth or need to picked up/produced by a good studio but at the same time…it’s the same in other countries. When I was trying to relearn Polish (I failed) I watched sooooo many trash movies. And it’s the same with other countries.

Like the US, the respected movies of their countries will make waves. Maybe if she named a movie other than Anatomy of a Fall, I would take her opinion a little more seriously. Tell us about the lesser known movies, Jessica!

Watching certain types of Polish movies, especially modern comedies, is basically torturing yourself (with rare exceptions). There's been some good movies in recent years (Corpus Christi comes to mind), we have some talented filmmakers, but a lot of the mainstream stuff is just insufferable. Older Polish movies (drama/thrillers, not comedy) are often a safer choice.

A romcom comes straight to mind so I def lol’d at your comment right away. So bad. Buuuut I should say they are good for learning conversational Polish.

I should def seek out the older movies. Poland has so many iconic directors and movies so I should prob watch/rewatch for learning and entertainment purposes.

I looked up Corpus Christi and it’s available! Thank you for the recommendation!

Some of the best films in general were not from the US and many good films from the US were remakes for international films.
