Normani reveals to ELLE that she cried because she didn’t want “Motivation” to be her single:

“It’s crazy. Now I appreciate that song so much more than I did then. I cried, I ‘boohoo’ cried. I was like, ‘I don’t want this to be my single.’ Then I had total creative control over… pic.twitter.com/TfJcM84RoU

it's my least favorite single of hers tbh. she clearly prefers the more straight r&b lane and shouldn't be beholden to fickle gays who don't support artists regardless.

Oh lord... why is this about "fickle gays" now?

She has so much potential.

Her new song is fine and I like it. But it is pretty standard for an R&B track. It doesn't stand out whatsoever.

Basically, leave my gay ass out of this one, sir.

you know not only gays were losing it over motivation right? it might have been a long weekend but the song had a moment with the masses.

She really likes r&b music. That's why. Last year they were trying to get her to release a song that sounded like Blinding Lights from the Weeknd and she really really didn't want to do that either. I think a large part of her fanbase are pop fans and really would prefer her to release pop music but she's not for it lol

At least she seems set on Candy Paint being a single so an uptempo song is coming lol

I think a lot of them and here too just really wanted to go full pop and essentially beat out Camila since she was having huge success with Havana. But it's been pretty clear she likes more of that sensual lowkey all vibes r&b than pop-dance glory.

I think a lot of her fans just also really like pop music lol. I don't think it's just about Camila. Even with the people here, people don't really listen to r&b or rap that much so I get why they want the pop music from her too lol

At this point it's not about Camila anymore but it was at one point. But yeah I guess they want pop from her but it's been pretty clear in the last 6 years that that's not her preference.
