Out of the entire album, I do think Jolene is..just fine. Anyways, stream CC

musically, i really like what she did with it, especially after the 2-minute mark with the bridge and outro. lyrically, not so much. even the possibility this may be sung from miss tina's perspective/experience still doesn't save it for me.

Exactly.

Tbh imo the OG Jolene song is just OK to begin with 🤭

i cringe everytime she sings, "I raised that man"

I'm a Dolly fan and to me, Beyoncé's version is really good. I like this more aggressive, less submissive version. And Dolly approved, so if it's fine with her, it's fine with me, too.

I also think people are missing the throughline of this new version of Jolene and Tyrant which is in some way the perspective of a Jolene-like figure.

I enjoy the song. Dolly gave her approval that’s all that matters imo.

In terms of the whole album tho it’s my least played.

Nearly a month released and I still am playing it non stop and hearing new details in the production she’s honestly a musical genius.

It’s crazy to me that since 4 I have enjoyed every single song on her albums since.

tldr: stream cowboy carter

it’s the one song I always skip when I’m playing the album!

oh well, the album is really good otherwise, especially love the second half

It's an unmitigated lyrical mess, she made an embarrassing pick me song while erasing the queerness of the original.

Bodyguard is on repeat though.
