that plea deal is INSANELY lenient and would do well in educating him on why this was so serious and what he can do to prevent further tragedies. what a naive idiot not to accept that deal.

I wonder if they were going to refuse it because if he accepted it, wouldn't it open him up to a civil suit from the family of the director? Or did they already sign something saying they would never sue?

Tbh it sounds like really bad legal advice/representation to me. Especially since it sounds like he was gonna take it. His lawyers trying to play the press game was really dumb. Plea deals are never set in stone until the judge rules.
