Must be kind of a bummer to the self esteem knowing your tour only sold out for nostalgia and no one actually cares about your latest work.
I listened to it and I don’t hate it but it sounds dated and also the lyrics are strange like you are married with two children. The lyrics did not match the state of his life at all. Seemed like it was written 10+ years ago which is ironic since he claimed he wrote over 100 songs for this album.
I think mentally he's still in the early 2000s where he could write shady things about his relationships and people would be intrigued, and it's not happening. It would be different and more mature if he wrote from a "that was me in the past but I don't live there anymore" viewpoint but he doesn't. There's no evolution with his lyrics.
He has two default lyrical modes - in the club hooking up (insert drug/sex metaphor), or Cry Me a River - and he's over-relying on them. I feel like it's missing a Blue Ocean Floor or Drink You Away
