YES I saw the trailer before Dune and it looked a hot fucking mess. where did the budget go???

I can't be sure, but I feel like they used CGI a lot more so it looked crap compared to Fury Road which had loads of actual practical effects which made it more immersive and impressive and fun to watch

I'm very interested in this but I'm also thinking like, will the whole film be depressing knowing where there story eventually ends up?

I can't say I've seen enough of her work to doubt if she can do this (only Dune 2 and that was nothing, also New Mutants and we won't hold that against her). So I have no expectations of her walking into this.
