There was a 99 cent store about two blocks from campus so I was able to buy food and other stuff my freshman year. Unlike other students I knew, I didn't get an allowance from my parents. The only spending money I had came from my minimum wage work study job and I was usually only scheduled for 3-5 hours a week during my freshman year so every dollar counted.

this makes me so sad. I know a lot of older people who do their grocery shopping there.

they have produce unlike dollar tree too, and not all dollar generals have fruits and veggies either

YES. One of my clients at my old job would always talk about how she knew what day and time to go get the good produce before it was gone. This is going to hit a lot of communities near me really hard :(

I would always find a lot of cute decorations for holidays and for my desk as well lol

ugh im so sorry :( i hope they are able to find a produce section close by to them that is accessible. i feel awful for the individuals who depend on their stores for their food

oh same! they got cute stuff sometimes lol same with dollar tree, ill buy all sorts of decorations there! its about to be summer time so im looking forward to what they will have this season lmao

also also going there to buy candy before sneaking it into a movie theatre, i need to start doing that again

NOOOOOO!! i know the one by my house like the back of my hand! i grew up in that store. im sad for the surrounding shops in the same parking lot, theres faaaar too many empty buildings happening here and its really depressing. soon theres going to be tagging, and boarded up windows.. im worried about my neighborhood and blight happening w/ all these vacant buildings

i hope there will be something in place of these 99 cent stores but i doubt it

I went to a 99 cents store when I got back to America and I felt cheated that everything wasn't 99 cents or lower
