They already cast a woman several years younger than the character’s age. That wasn’t good enough? I remember reading that they wanted Pamela Anderson.

It's funny Gillian actually admitted on a podcast [I think Nerdist?] she added 3 years to her age when she auditioned because she was worried they would think she was too young for Scully, lol

They also seem to not understand the fact that any tv character will be sexy if the audience spends enough time with them and they're not massively unfortunately looking.
