It would be one thing if some of these celebs said, "I'm not a nepo baby," and left it at that. But so many of them go out of there way to describe specific examples of how nepotism helped them and then they conclude with "But I am not a nepo baby." You can't read me the definition of something and then tell me that's not what it is!
I know Aziz is problematic now, but he was correct in that bit where he said if you believe that men and women should have equal rights then you're a feminist.
ETA: I knew it was going to drive me crazy until I found the exact quote!
I hate that I like that anziz quote and Aldo that dumb Louis ck quote about how you don't get to tell people how you hurt them. Because sometimes, terrible people say the right things (also anziz =/= Louis ck or anything)
Yep. Hell, even Louis CK way before we all found out he was garbage had a great bit in his standup about how men's biggest fear when going on a date was being rejected and women's is getting murdered.
i feel like there's the misconception that the more famous your nepotistic connections are, the more famous you will be. i actually feel like it can sometimes better to have your parents be well-connected behind the scenes or famous in a different way, that way you benefit from their network without having to be in their shadow.
or people seem to think if a nepo baby reached greater success than their parent/sibling, then it was truly raw talent and didn't have much to do with any connections. like i rolled my eyes when i saw someone on another message board claim that it was so wild and "what were the chances" that elizabeth olsen became so successful as an actor and is as respected as she is given that her sisters aren't regarded as thespians. it wasn't guaranteed, and she's devoted a lot of time to studying acting, so i don't want to diminish that, but she had a way better chance than your average actor.
exactly this, like nobody thinks of the Gyllenhaals as nepo babies even though their dad's a director and their mum's a screenwriter. those connections are probably even more valuable than a famous name, the toughest thing about the industry is finding someone who'll give you a chance and that's way easier if someone's like "oh sure you're so-and-so's kid." its wild to pretend any differently.
Yeah, like... Mary-Kate and Ashley are not great actresses, but that's a common issue with child stars, especially those who started in sitcoms: a lot of acting for kids in comedy is just making cute faces and saying catchphrases in exaggerated tone, it doesn't really teach acting. They spent all their childhood making direct to video movies where they didn't need to be very good. Meanwhile Elizabeth had both the time and the money (earned by her sisters) to go get a proper acting education.
R u sure about that zooey. My friend is a deadbeat but his dad works in the art department of hollywood, hes worked on huge movies, and has hooked up my friend with so many hollywood gigs and jobs that people would die for.
