People are so brutal about her on social media (we just can’t win!) and I remember reading about her Pitch Perfect contract. I believe Chrissy Metz had something similar for This Is Us?

On a less serious note, I think about stuff like that often. Like the show “Ghosts.” Luckily wigs and the like are there but damn, it has to suck to maintain the same look so it’s consistent.

People still joke about Matthew Perry losing weight between the proposal episodes on Friends even though he was going through it.

Anyway, ending my stream of consciousness.

It does always make me think about an interview with a costume designer who said that producers will demand to know if she's letting out costumes for female stars (aka. asking if they've gained weight) but never say sh*t about the men. And male stars' weights fluctuate wildly on long-running shows, especially as they hit middle age.

I thought Chrissy Metz contract originally had her losing weight?

You could be right! I never watched the show but followed articles about it, because I am that person, and I remember her character wanting to lose weight but never followed up on if that was an ongoing storyline or anything.

I mean, she can just say the word "fat" because her characters were nearly always in full glam. She was just in a larger body.

I'm happy that she's happier now. I also can't imagine what being a token fat actor in Hollywood is like, but this is a weird choice of phrasing/framing.

I dont know a single person who ever thought she was ugly. I remember when PP came out people I knew thought it was supposed to be satire that they just called her "Fat" because otherwise she would be conventionally pretty lol. Like we thought it was supposed to be mocking fatphobia esp given she has a romance? But I cant imagine what she went through and how that would impact the psyche. Jesus.

much like a lot of fuggos who are perceived as beautiful are simply white and fit, to a lot of folks, fat and ugly are essentially interchangeable, so even if people didn't think she was ugly, she was always the beautiful-face girl, never the beautiful girl.

The opening to Pitch Perfect 2 had her swinging from a harness and then everyone finding she wasn't wearing underwear in front of a full auditorium essentially ruining the performance.

Fat woman humiliation is such a trope in Hollywood (and bizarrely shows up in the forst few minutes of a lot of films).

That movie was so bad on the whole

I don’t bring this up, because women def have it harder (fat Monica in Friends, for instance), but fat people in general is a trope. Fat Schmidt in New Girl is an example.

I remember not loving Fat Monica when I was younger, but it was still so okay in the 90s that I don't know if I realized how bad it was until I was rewatching Friends recently!
