I don't understand natural selection because babies should just sleep all the way through the night that way everyone can get sleep. Having sleep deprived people having to drive to work & work all day just sounds like a terrible idea.

When I was little I would sleep for 14 hours, now I'm lucky if I get 7-8 (I average 6.5 hours) at night and my alarm goes off at 6:15am.

I mean, that’s not how natural selection works at all. Back in hunter/gatherer times things like ADHD and autism would have kept you alive, both disorders that majorly impact sleep.

They also don’t really impact sleep as much when you’re going off the sun/natural light/dark cycle and have no screens or artificial light really. I have experience disconnecting completely for 4 months and it was incredible how much my sleep regulated even though normally with my ADHD, I have a sleep disorder.

That’s awesome!

I do think it’s case dependent though…my 6yo has been a terrible sleeper since literal birth, well before screens were a thing in her life.

A year ago she had her adenoids removed because we thought her sleep apnea was the real culprit. No🥲

Women would always praise my dad for being good with kids and say he was unique. I feel sorry for any mum who doesn’t get help from her partner.

i still think about a distant relative of mine who admired my husband (who she just met) while he took the baby out of the car seat and said "he's such a good dad."

The bar for dads is so low it's ridiculous.

I always wonder how my mom managed to have 3 kids with my dad being the typical old school dad whose sole job was being the “provider”. He never even changed a single diaper. I would not have survived my c-section recovery, nor parenting as a whole, without my husband.

I also thank the heavens he’s stronger than me with doing what needs to be done because I can’t even take our baby to go get vaccines since I don’t want to see him cry. So he takes that necessary bullet. (Disclaimer: I would take him if I had to though, ofc).

Same. And my mom also had a teenager from a different marriage with three under age 4. My dad refused to even stay up to help wrap gifts for Christmas.
