so, there's absolutely no way someone from another country can watch this, right? as in, it's not being recorded to be broadcast anywhere? (I'm only hopeful since I heard Andrew Scott's current play is doing this)

yeah, it's not happening

I don't get why productions don't release recordings after the run. not everyone has the means to get their asses to New York for a show. it feels gatekeepy

most theatrical productions, including most broadway shows, lose money, and the cost of recording is not cheap. in addition to hiring labor to record a show (camera crew, sound, editing, etc.), you also have to pay extra to just about every person involved in the production, because the rate they’re receiving for acting in a broadway show (or playing orchestra in the pit, or having designed the lights) doesn’t cover screen/recording rights. (last time i investigated this i think i read that most theater unions also don’t have standard policies on payment for this kind of thing so you have to do a fair amount of negotiating which can probably also incur costs but idr for sure.) if you’re already in the red or just breaking even, you can’t afford this kind of thing unless people think you can make ( ... )

i know pbs will sometimes film theatre in new york but, off the top of my head, they haven't done so on broadway unfortunately (i know they've done shakespeare in the park in new york, but that was separate).

national theatre live does it all in the UK quite often on the west end, which is how andrew scott's play was filmed. i wish there was a broadway equivalent of that because i've seen a lot of great stuff through national theatre live that i never would've gotten to see otherwise.
