Good if they're finally cutting the correct, grossly overpaid people who contribute nothing rather than the workers they wouldn't have gotten those bonuses without

They're on LinkedIn talking about how their applications don't get responses - they've had to take on *gasp* SIDE GIGS and CONSULTING to get work.

This is why I don't trust individual consultants period. Everyone in my professional network that went on to independently consult look like they have "20+ years in the industry" but I know that they can't get a job in said industry because they are a) horrific to work with and b) have been driven out of multiple leadership positions.

How do you get driven out of a leadership position I wonder. A lot of the worst people get stuck there because they make money for the company.

Also lol I consult bc I don't want to deal with corporate bureaucracy especially knowing IT isn't considered a business expense until there's a breach. I'll tell you what to do, you do it or not, as long as you pay me and I can leave.

Well sadly those cases I'm thinking about are specifically people that are both shitty and ineffective. I left my last job after 7 years because they hired 2 "girl boss" archetype leaders who are super toxic and insecure about their performance so they make every woman's lives around them miserable (but not the men tho - wonder why?!!) but they were effective as fuck so they're not going anywhere. Well one of them left after a high profile promotion to a different place. The other one is still there even after all 5 of her direct reports who manage revenue generating teams and were respected as effective and strong leaders left because of her direct management skills.

oh jeeze, those kind of women. I don't subscribe to the whole "Women should use their EMOTIONAL and NURTURING socialization to make change in the workplace" ~primitive magic (thanks Le Guin for putting a name to it), but I don't believe in being one of the guys when the guys have been constantly socialized to be ... terrible.

I wish that the same energy was in academia and we got rid of the administrative bloat.

They should have been the first ones gone. Not the creatives.
