Law & Order round-up: Promos for next week episodes + discussion post

Mar 17, 2024 18:46

Someone suggested I include Toronto in the weekly posts, and this seemed like a good idea with four series of L&O currently airing, so let's dive in to discuss the recently aired episodes! Unfortunately I couldn't find a promo for the next Toronto Criminal Intent episode, so if someone else finds it please post in comments.

Just started watching SVU for the first time in my life and it's so good (I didn't know what to expect). How does the original L&O compare?

I think to this day I’ve only really watched any episodes that were part of a crossover event, so I should let others chime in.

But what drew me in with SVU (after my friend told me in 2005 the lead was my type so I should watch) is the dedication and heart Mariska (and in turn, Olivia Benson) bring to the plot. It’s always felt different to me than the other shows.

Also YAY WELCOME!!! One of us!

I watched SVU first many years ago, probably during a marathon on USA Network, and it became one of my favorite shows. I never watched new episodes on NBC, just the marathons. I then started watching the original L&O when marathons popped up on TNT, although I don't know if they'd been doing that the whole time and I just hadn't noticed because I always watched SVU. Anyway, at some point, I just started liking L&O more and more. To this day, I will put on L&O even though I've seen almost every episode by now. I rarely put SVU on now and the last time I saw a newer episode, I actually cringed. I think part of my problem with SVU is how it contains too much of the characters' personal lives. In L&O, you get these little glimpses and I think it's the perfect amount most of the time. I also like the variety of cases in L&O compared to SVU. I will say I tried watching L&O when it came back from cancellation and it's not the same since it was originally on. It's not quite like SVU but it has a little of the same vibe now that it didn't

Thanks for the thorough reply. I’m always a bit apprehensive with very long running shows that the quality drops or it becomes repetitive. For now it’s good to know that I can also start watching L&O after finishing SVU.
I like how they feel like thrillers but nice and short and they are not focused on ‘saving the world’ or any other larger than life plot points I feel like many shows have nowadays. The acting is also great!

I haven't watched L&O since sometime in the second new season but I tuned in again for McCoy's last episode. I think it was a decent sendoff. I also checked out this week's episode with the new DA. It was a little awkward and might be interesting to see how he works out but I still don't like how these episodes feel compared to the original run so I don't think I'll keep watching.

I enjoyed this week's criminal intent a lot, but i wanted the guy to not confess so the black councilor could have a shot of winning. Not feeling a big fan of the lead cop who's constantly lying to get confessions.

yeah, the story he told about how they will keep his arrest from the press till the black lady wins was literally impossible. I don't know how anyone would buy that.

Lmao so much L&O content at the moment, but I ended up watching a few episodes from the OGs first season for no reason.

I was disappointed that Toronto went the Criminal Intent route and then I was a bit surprised that they opted for the male detective to be the Goren-type instead of the lady. But it's fine so far (by my L&O standards, which are very low)

Tony Goldwyn's DA wasn't the lord and saviour that I was hoping for, but maybe they're working towards it... I mean they have to do better with that character, right?

Quintessential Law and Order episode - start off on one thing and ends up as Arnie Hammer-lite.
Tony Goodwyn is moving mad, lowkey scary, and I love it.
