She's finally free from Kate Young? That explains a lot.

She did fire her early last year. Kate Young couldn't have pulled the Barbie tour.

I'm moving at the end of the month, I plan to buy this as my coffee table book.

Maybe I'm just being grumpy but I'm not sure we needed another coffee table book of a slim white woman wearing expensive clothes?

edit: I've thought about it more and I think it's because this has zero of the aspects of empowerment or independence that the film purported to include. It's just devoid of it, she's even modelled legitimately like a doll. It's the exact opposite of empowering.

i rly love how it looks bc i like when art commits to the bit, like when you model (pretend) doll clothes, make it look wholesale like a doll. so on that level, i enjoy it a lot aesthetically. but when you put it in the context of the movie and how it's about barbie's independence and not being just a toy, it falls flat instead.

I get it, I do, I really do appreciate the commitment to the aesthetic.
Imagine if she'd decided to use a really broad range of models as the dolls? Even that would have felt like an attempt to match the ethos of the film. But then that diversity may have resulted in not being able to wear the designer clothes, which I suspect are all sample size.

I'm just unable to see how this aligns with what Margot was saying the film was selling. Damn shame
