After 4 years of small town Midwest life, I'm back in TX and super excited about SXSW! But the free shit. I'm not paying thousands of dollars for a badge, I don't care that much.

I haven’t been in a decade but you don’t need a badge. Also, I was able to go to some really cool events by going in the back door. Granted, it wasn’t intentional but I was always okay.

Tons of free shows around town. Good luck & have fun.

Thanks! Oh for sure, I've only done free SXSW and have gotten pretty lucky with some stuff I was able to get into (as well as some duds, lol). Of course the really cool stuff is guaranteed with a badge, but I don't care that much - I'm just happy to be back and excited for the energy/experience.
