"Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer on the ill-fated Western film “Rust,” was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of the film’s cinematographer

Reading about the entire production sounds like an absolute nightmare. Like, no one following safety standards and actively doing stuff that you just don't do on a movie set where guns are being handled. Then, some people complained and were ignored. Ultimately, the buck stops with the armorer, but I would not be against other people getting some charges too.
I remember Michael Shannon suspecting it being due to cutting corners a while back:
“I’m not condemning Alec. I feel horrible for the guy. It’s a nightmare,” Shannon told The Chicago Tribune. “I feel terrible for everyone on that production. But this is what happens when you lowball and cut corners and hire people that may not be qualified, and pay them next to nothing, and make the movie on the cheap. People get jobs in this business because they’re willing to work for a low enough fee. I see it all the time

I bring this up a lot in the posts about this movie - they were on the verge of an IATSE strike the weekend that Halyna was killed. They already had production safety issues and then to add that pressure to get as much filming/stuff done with a looming strike (that didn’t even end up happening) and that added pressure just contributed to the perfect storm of recklessness and negligence with everything else.
My worry is that this happens a lot and isn't reported on. You have people desperate to work put in an unsafe environment, either afraid to say anything, ignored when they speak up, or too green to know any different.
It speaks volumes that Nic Cage stormed off one of the sets Hannah Gutierrez was working on because he was unhappy with her work. He's in a position of power and is listened to. If Alec Baldwin suspected the same (and as a producer he should have), he should have said something too.
She’s lucky that’s all she got. Did y’all see that even her weapons “expert” mishandled the gun by pointing it at the judge?and the bailiff had to grab it. Insane.
I'm legit remembering the stuff mentioned about her on a Nicolas Cage movie. Totally irresponsibility and lack of proper safety protocol!! Nicolas wanted her gone from set!
