In a new docuseries, Drake Bell will come forward with allegations that Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck sexually abused him when he was a child actor. https://t.co/F1gMx1l6Lv - Entertainment Weekly (@EW) March 6, 2024
i'm genuinely surprised it didn't come out earlier that he was one of the victims. i'm glad he is getting the chance to speak on it when he's ready to, at least i hope it was all on his terms.
edit: whoa, i forgot about the allegations against him too. fuuuuck. this shit really is cyclical.
There's something so devastating about a victim growing up to become a perpetrator himself. It always begets the question of whether his own victims would have been safe if he himself had never victimized either.
I do wonder the mentality of why someone who was abused at one point goes on later in life follow a similar pattern. I think in the case of csa I imagine it's part of the grooming that was left instilled in them and someone that aspect never got properly addressed or treated?
Then other times I wonder if it's a certain deep-level resentment of what happened to them and they take it out on someone else.
It's all interesting because you have cases of people who were abused but never follow those patterns and are horrified at the thought of it.
Mte. I know the vast majority of victims do not go on to become abusers themselves but I think there’s something to be said for how that fucks with your brain so much. He should still be held responsible for what he’s done OF COURSE but I also have empathy for that child and what was taken from him. Drug abuse has also played a big part in how fucked up he is now, and I have a lot of empathy for that too. He chose his path and chose to hurt others I guess.
I remember my friend putting posters of him up on her wall swooning over him in 2005/2006, horribly sad to think about what that kiddo was going through.
Feels similar to Aaron Carter in a lot of ways, who has his own allegations that he was getting with minors, though that gets lost in his death and the tragic circumstances of his own childhood.
Why is EW calling them “allegations” when the man was convicted of his crimes, went to prison, and currently a registered sex offender? I get publications wanting to be cautious but this doesn’t sit well with me.
From the other articles I read, I don't think it's been confirmed yet that he was the victim from the trial, so I'm guessing that's why it's written that way.
Oh wow, so he is the guy you hear whisper 'no' when they asked if they ever talked / mentioned about this publicly, and the one everyone was reacting to when they said there was someone abusing kids on set.
