I'm actually on time for this.

The carving challenge was excellent. Even the worst one looked pretty darn good.

Didn't end up loving the main challenge. The winner's was good but I didn't love the chosen colours/application.

ITA about the carving challenge. I was pleasantly surprised that everyone's looked really good. I also really liked that this was a very different challenge than we've seen on past seasons of the British version of the show.

Visually, I really loved Elsa's lantern with all of those cut outs and Renu's trees, but I knew they weren't going to win because they weren't abstract enough. Despite their praise for Thomas', I knew he wouldn't win for the same reason. I felt like they really wanted something blobby and amorphous that didn't resemble anything real, which is why Jen and Jackie were the only ones that were in the running. If Jackie's hadn't exploded, she might have won but they did seem really taken with Jen's. I did like that she had the paint run sideways though, which gave it a different feeling than it would have had if she had let it drip down vertically.

I really liked the contrast between the main make (abstract) and the spot test (very precise).

adam field! i guess i shouldnt be surprised, he and seth are tight. i need to start watching this. i like the tree sculpture more than the one that won.
