I love ruffalo and think he's had an incredible and well-deserved career even long before marvel movies came along but I also love snobbery and high(er) art so.... I win either way :)
the 'sell-out' debate has been happening since the very first commercialisation of art, this is no different. I can understand why auteurs don't want their movies muddied with the obviously corporate offenders (disney). I don't think it's a personal thing. the idea of their being a social punishment for selling out is the way the scales can be balanced more in favour of those with less money/power. a bit like cancellation originally being a response to institutions not taking accountability because they would be harming their own investments. I think it's really interesting, even if it's a concept that can't universally be applied to art right now (particularly most musicians).

lmao actually, it does sort of sound like a salty actor who considers what they do prestige and used marvel to bolster their name, but I think he would've said that if so as 'proof' or something if so
