the People magazine source of this shows an image of her in the children's choir during the movie, that is her 10 cent performance.

And it probably costs $50 to send that 10-cent check. My company (we're not in the US) is dealing with another company in the US for a financial service that costs $1 or $2 USD per transaction. We asked if we could pay by credit card, wire, ACH, etc., and the answer was no. Can we pay a lump sum? Also no. It's literally costing us close to $100 USD to send these $1 checks, lol. I deal with so many US companies whose tech and everything is so old school and outdated. It amazes me that the US is still considered the number 1 financial market, lol

I once received "late digital tips" from Starbucks for $1.10 from Seattle which means international postage was worth more than the value of the cheque

I think the US is only the #1 financial market because we exploit so many other countries - so there's a lot of money in the market, it's just misgotten and ill-managed. People can waste all they want because there's always more to be stolen.
