the question, if I want an electric car, can I have one that is dependent on a computer network?

I'm thinking like how my apple watch won't work if i don't do a software update, i don't want an electric car to act hte same way.

i want it to be like when i drive my toyta off the lot, i own it and as long as i keep it filled up, it will work for me.

Network connectivity has nothing to do with an electric car functioning as a car. BMW recently got into a bit of a kerfluffle by putting heated seats behind a subscription on their gas cars: https://www.forbes.com/sites/alistaircharlton/2020/07/02/bmw-wants-to-charge-you-a-subscription-for-your-heated-seats/?sh=1396f2f83c64. It's more so that auto manufacturers are just making every car with some kind of operating system in it that controls virtually every facet of your vehicle ( ... )
