Issa Rae has “never seen Hollywood this scared and clueless and at the mercy of Wall Street.”

“I’m sorry, but there aren’t a lot of smart executives anymore,” Rae says. "Now these conglomerate leaders are also making the decisions about Hollywood. Y’all aren’t creative people.… pic.twitter.com/aveLlS8sLW

i'm still reeling/so sad about OFMD's cancellation. i've read it had decent-to-good numbers so it's such an idiotic decision to cancel it.

Is that the show that uses an irl slave/plantation owner as one of its inspirations for its lead character?

Edit: I just realized this sounds like I'm attacking you but I'm genuinely asking because I've seen someone mention that on twitter and idk anything about any of these characters and I am curious lksdfjlsd lol

Stede and Blackbeard are both technically based on actual historical pirates, and Stede was a landowner before running away to piracy, so I assume he’s the one people call a slaveowner (given he was Barbadian in the Age of Piracy, that checks out).

Ngl I've never heard of Stede (I know who Blackbeard is though lol) so why didn't they just make up a random pirate then to avoid potentially alienating certain demographics? Is it based on a book/comic, etc? I've never had the time or interest to look up the show lol. I just know I saw one of my Twitter mutuals vaguely mention it once and said that one of the main characters being based on a slave owner pre-piracy turned her off as Black Jamaican.

It’s really disheartening as a black person tbh. All you can do is keep trying, tell the truth and maintain your integrity (though a lot of ppl don’t have that). Glad Issa is.

She ain't wrong and I hate how these old folks won't let the next generation take over. I'm an X'er and we're hiring Zoomers at work. I'm more than happy to pass the torch to them.

They have a different mindset and work ethic. I was of the get a job, stay there forever, retire crowd, and they seem to be job hoppers after a few years. Just different philosophies and needs, and the world has changed so much (as it always does.)

But I hate that techbros/venture capitalists seem to run every industry now. And by run, I mean destroy.

I was reading an article today that said 30% of hiring managers pass over Gen Z, so reading this makes me happy. "bc they're used to remote and hybrid work BC OF A PANDEMIC" like how are they going to learn? it's the same 'you need experience / job" bullshit.

We recently hired 2 new law school grads. They're both great. Smart, ask questions, get their work done. We have a hybrid 2 days in/3 days at home, and I have a circumstance where I'm fully remote, but we have weekly group get togethers and my dept is very collaborative.

I just have to remember to explain my references cuz I forget they're like 24. My fave was one was shocked and horrified that she had to mail a check somewhere. She was like, how do I know they'll get it? Where do I get a check from?

I had the exact same reaction in 1994 in college when my roommate said her professor required them to email their papers to him. I was shocked Pikachu! How do you know he'll get it? What if it disappears in cyberspace. Lol.
