trying to keep up with the oscar-buzzy movies. i saw The Holdovers at home last week and enjoyed it. i also watched Society of the Snow which was terrifying but really good. Fallen Leaves will be on mubi this weekend so i'll try to watch that soon. and i'm planning to see American Fiction in theaters next week. i'm still avoiding Maestro lol not sure if i'll ever bother watching it :x
I suggest skipping Maestro unless you turn it into a fun drinking game like my friend and I did while watching it on New Year's Eve: we'd both take a large gulp through/around/over our grimaces every time Bradley forced upon us another closeup of his own face. We got pretty sauced.
i'll check out i.s.s. at one point, though for some reason i thought it was a comedy? i love space shit though and costa ronin should have gotten better work after the americans because he's so good in that (same for annet mahendru).
i saw mean girls earlier this week, which was a mixed bag. you could tell they had budget for a streaming movie rather than a theatrical one, but most of the cast was solid. i wasn't familiar with either jaquel spivey or avantika but they both got laughs out of me. i was also somehow legit surprised by [Spoiler (click to open)]the lindsay lohan cameo.
Pushed back my screening of I.S.S. from tonight to Saturday so I could accomplish my goal of staying inside all week (and bc my boss let us WFH today). 🤓 I love dumb space stuff sfm.
Fallen Leaves is on Mubi tomorrow, so I'll check that out. Wanna get around to The End We Start From, but idk when. Man, Jan is hard.
