He wrote a treatment and they took some aspects of his treatment and put them into the script (which really shows whenever Arthur is acting like a 5th grader and the bit at the end addressing the World Nations in regards to climate change and his whole WOOHOOOO or whatever)

They probably didn't have enough justification under her contract to avoid a lawsuit, so they figured a bit of malicious compliance was the way to go.
