TOP GUN is now a trilogy. TOP GUN 3 with Tom Cruise returning as Maverick is reportedly in development at Paramount. TOP GUN still has a long ways to go to catch Cruise's MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE franchise

No. No. The sequel was a special thing because it was such a big deal coming back after all these years, and it had a really different story to tell than the original about Maverick's foibles not ageing well. We do not need the law of diminishing returns kicking in.
