Ava Max and Kygo both teased their upcoming collaboration on socials and it samples Shakira's 2001 hit single "Whenever, Wherever." Social media isn't exactly thrilled.

Really feeling like that old man yelling at clouds but i tried to listen to a compilation of the "best" dance music of 2022 and 2023 and like 50% of them either sampled or extrapolated/ referenced an old hit, and most of them just did them so terribly? I love a sample when it's well done but my god, most of them are just not.

E: Also, unrelated to this post i guess but re: the dance hits of the last few years: there's some variation in the female vocalists but why do all the guys want to sing like a nasal goat recently? Like nails on chalkboard.

Yeah its really weird. How many times are people just gonna sample ATC or Eifel 65 instead of making new dance music? ENOUGH.

I'm all for samples when they're bringing something to the table, but this just sounds like she's forgotten the real lyrics or is too drunk to read them at karaoke
