I haven't seen that many new movies this year, I was lazy and mostly focused on my comfort movies!

I did see Asteroid City and although it was very visually appealing I felt like it was lacking in spirit. Sometimes it feels like Wes Anderson leans a little too much into the fact that he is himself, things feel a little too stereotypical. The highlight of the movie was the alien posing for the photo, so cute!

I've tried 2x to watch Asteroid City. Visually very cool. But just couldn't get into it.

I've felt this about WA movies for a while. They're almost starting to feel like a satire of himself. I watched his adaptation of Roald Dahl stuff last year and I wasn't that keen - just felt a bit all over the place and felt like being smacked in the face with his tropes one after another

Not my favorite one of his videos, but so many fun moments!

Jeremy Allen White discus throwing transitioning to a train crashing
The "baby, baby, baby" cut
The dancing/naked Barry edits at the "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" climax
"I'm Just Ken" over Priscilla and The Iron Claw
The Maestro/Mario mashup
"Push" during Anatomy of a Fall... looooooool

I agree with his list more than I usually do, even if the order is chaotic - he has most of the best stuff on here. Glad he put Asteroid City so high, I loved it.

Loved Asteroid City & loved Boy and the Heron. Last night we saw "Monster" which made me cry, it was so so good even if the plot was kind of simple the execution was masterful

Monster destroyed me. Having lived in Japan and worked as a teaching assistant, I felt an uncomfortable familiarity with the depiction of petty bureaucracy and bullying. The whole idea of not conforming in a society that thrives on homogeneity and stifling politeness. I really liked the Rashomon style storytelling structure and the sweetness of the friendship between the two boys. And Ryuichi Sakamoto's score has been on playing on repeat since I watched the movie, particularly the piano piece from the final few scenes.

monster is absolutely wonderful, i hope it doesn't get lost amongst everything else in such a strong year because it's a gem
