All the extreme hype that Past Lives is getting is making me question if I actually saw it in theaters with my cousin one Saturday afternoon last year, or if I actually saw a completely different movie.

I don’t get it frankly. I thought the film was alright, but that’s it. I liked the acting, directing and cinematography, but I thought the script was severely lacking. Whether it be from the lack of any memorable or impactful dialogue, the lack of any drama/action/conflict to keep me engaged, or the lack of chemistry between the supposed soulmates~, I can’t really put my finger on it, but all I know is that for me it was lacking something important and failed to have me feel invested in the story and characters.

I’m glad that a film starring two Asian leads is getting a lot of praise and attention though.

I feel like Teo Yoo, cinematography, score, and directing were the highlights. The script was fine but I feel like people overhyped it as the deserving ones. I think Greta and Teo really lifted the script with their performances but to me Teo does ALL the heavy-lifting.

I believed the relationship because of them but there were a few times that I was like "but they only knew each other from they were kids??? they never even kissed or had a proper date but they're destined soulmates???". I think that's where the script kinda lacked and the actors lifted it.

[Spoiler (click to open)]Plus I thought it was hinted at being slightly one-sided with Hae Sung holding out a torch for Na Young but she kinda moved on, I mean the main reason she stopped it before it went any further was because she's always had ambition whereas Hae Sung is more a settle-type of guy so I feel like in some ways the relationship was never gonna work. He even said "you're the type that leaves".

I thought was at her best when speaking in Korean but when she spoke in English I didn’t think her performance was that great.

Teo on the other hand was perfect in both languages!!

past lives surging while color purple falling off a cliff at the box office is leading me to think greta gets nominated over fantasia, even if fantasia makes it at sag (tho i think both are nominated there and sandra is left off but well see).

I just saw All Of Us Strangers today (it's in EXTREMELY limited release in Canada, like apparently two theatres nationwide lol). I am so happy that Andrew Scott won because that performance was devastating. I wish Claire Foy was getting some buzz because I thought she (and Jamie Bell for that matter) were very good too. Paul was fantastic as well.

Very happy for Da’Vine Joy Randolph because she was fantastic and I hope she's the frontrunner for the Oscar at this point? I see her winning a lot of awards!
