"I saw a clip of this and was like "WTF is Jon Batiste doing there" so had to watch. He stands out like a sore thumb a little bit, ILH and y'all should too."

AGREED.

i had to read and re-read this post because i could not wrap my head around why he would be included in this group. no disrespect to all the other participants, they all excel in their own way (idk julia michaels, i just assume she does good work), but Jon Batiste is in a league of his own.

This seems to be a roundtable for film music/score. He's on the Oscar shortlist for best song and score.

but i'm just ken better win best song.
batiste can win best score cause he should win all the things (except best song this year).

OP's reaction to Jon Baptiste was my reaction to Dua Lipa being in there. "Songwriters roundtable... and Dua Lipa was there too". No shade at Dua Lipa, because I do like her songs but I didn't know she wrote songs?

I first saw a clip divorced from the songwriters slant of it, it was olivia talking about lorde, and so she fit in in a pop context while jon was like ??? lol but yes even as a fan of dua's I'm glad she being called out, she doesn't... seem... like a big writer

i love mr batiste

and i've loved julia michaels for awhile so i'm glad to see her in the mix. she's just as good if not better than all the other pop girls of the last 5 years and i want her to do well

it was interesting to see the moment billie clearly alludes to being bi/pan here too, after the said she got "outed" on the red carpet...
