this movie was not good at all but it was at least entertaining.

[Spoiler (click to open)]i'm confused bc everyone keeps saying that barry's turn was obvious from the start but then what's the point of that montage at the end? and i saw that emerald herself said that he didn't plan this whole thing, he just really loved jacob and he lashed out when he got rejected? but then why cast barry at all, he always looked and acted as if he was up to no good. i honestly think i would have liked the movie better if someone else played his character

[Spoiler (click to open)]I think it was supposed to be a twist but for me the minute he slurped it was obvious he was crazy. I also didnt think they set up anyone else who could’ve killed Jacob? There should’ve been another red herring, it just seemed clear he did it out of rejection and who else would’ve done it? I didn’t think the cousin had a motive to kill Jacob.

I guess I could see how people thought the sister genuinely killed herself but again, he seemed crazy and they had that intense argument where she caught on to him. I think if they cut the part where she smelled his cologne and then did a flashback to that moment it would’ve been more effective.

I thought they were implying that everyone thought Felix [Spoiler (click to open)] OD’ed, so they weren’t looking for a killer, and that the sister really did kill herself. I could buy that Oliver didn’t plan on killing Felix, but he was obviously already pretty fucked in the head, so once he got comfortable with the idea of murder the mom wasn’t hard to do later.

I thought about it in terms of narcissistic/schizotypal injury when he was humiliated by Felix with the home and family reveal trip. And then it’s kind of like family annihilator adjacent, I guess. Like not just Felix had to go due to such injury they all had to. And then he’s intelligent enough to play long game and get the house that was the source of his humiliation.
